Dear Future Freshmen Representative,
First off congratulations! Making it into leadership as a freshman is no easy task, and yet you pushed through and did it. Freshmen year is one of many new experiences, lessons, and memories like no other. The first major event you will plan will be homecoming. You will challenge your organization, artistic, and team working skills along the way. One of the most important lessons I have learned has been to trust my fellow Freshmen Representatives. We started off a bit rocky with lack of communication but as the weeks flew by, we grew as a unit. Another tip I have is to always turn in your PO’s early. As a current Freshmen Representative, our PO was turned in late and we did not get any of our supplies on time. This caused a serious dent in our plans and I don’t want that to happen to you. Another very important thing is to save every single document. If you’re not good at keeping paper I would highly recommend scanning each document on the notes app that way there’s no way you can lose it.PLAN PLAN PLAN. I can’t emphasize this enough. It is really important to have a game plan. Trust me, you and your other freshmen reps will get busy with extracurriculars and will need to manage your time wisely.
MAKE BONDS! Like it or not you are going to be a freshman representative with a few other people. If you don’t form bonds with them early on, working on events will be extremely difficult. By committing to leadership you have also committed to spending countless hours with these people in and out of school. For example, during homecoming we were at Ximena’s house until 2 AM decorating the float. These are days where memories are made. Yes you may forget the exact details of everything you have created, but you will never forget the moments made with your other freshman reps. Lastly, never hesitate to ask for help. Everyone in the leadership program is there to help you and help you become the best version of yourself. Even things like the portfolio can be confusing so always know that you have support in any direction you look. Enjoy Freshmen year, it seriously goes by in a blink of an eye and next thing you know, you’ll be writing this letter to the next generation of freshmen reps.
Love, Sofia Grewal
